Description

The University of Lorraine was created on 1 January 2012 by the merger of Henri Poincaré, Nancy 2 and Paul Verlaine Universities, and the National Polytechnic Institute of Lorraine (INPL). The merger process started in 2009 with the creation of a "pôles de recherche et d'enseignement supérieur" or PRES.

The university is divided into two university centers, one in Nancy (biological sciences, health care, administration, and management) and one in Metz (material sciences, technology, and management). The University of Lorraine has over 52,000 students and offers 101 accredited research centers organized in 9 research areas and 8 doctoral colleges.

University of Lorraine promotes innovation through the dialogue of knowledge, taking advantage of the variety and strength of its scientific fields, and aiming at the promotion of knowledge transfer to irrigate innovation and economic growth as well as the progress of fundamental science.

Being the university of a whole region, University of Lorraine is a major player in its economic and social development, building on intercultural and intergeneration links, coordinating a regional research policy, and giving access to higher education to as many inhabitants as possible.

The University of Lorraine offers curricula in all fields of knowledge: sciences, health, technology, engineering sciences, human and social sciences, law, economy, management, arts, literature and language. A specific focus is given to crossovers between fields and skills, to help students develop their own pathway.
