Paris 13 University - Paris North Back
University accreditation applies to courses from this institution
The University of Paris 13 (UP13) is one of the thirteen successor universities created after the Sorbonne after 1968. The University now has close on 22,000 students on its rolls, on four campuses, following degree or ongoing training courses.
UP13 is a truly multidisciplinary establishment, and a major teaching and research hub in the north of Paris.
Message from the President
Last year, some of you were still in high school and are now discovering the university for the first time. For returning students, this is the start of a new academic year. All of you will benefit from the improvements to your living and working conditions since September or over the course of the 2009 - 2010 academic year.
A vast campus renovation programme is getting under way, focusing as its main priority on improving disabled access and everyday quality of life for all. Better accessibility for students and persons with reduced mobility, renovated toilet blocks (with better accessibility) on all four campuses, a new library at Bobigny, but also new student housing at Villetaneuse and Bobigny. An agreement with the CROUS and social housing providers to increase the number of housing units on offer in Saint-Denis. A new library for the Villetaneuse campus, and landscaping of our green spaces…
On the academic front, a plan to improve working conditions in the first year of degree courses has been introduced, the first effects of which should be felt as the new year gets under way: refresher courses, smaller tutorial groups, more tutors, etc. At the same time, we will be introducing centralised management of internship opportunities in order to be able to offer more internships as part of more courses, and be better able to evaluate them. The task of the university is to prepare you for working life. Throughout your course, we will be encouraging you to set out your Personal and Professional Project in the clearest possible terms. This year, on 22nd October, we will be organising a major student/business forum on the Villetaneuse campus so that future employers can meet our students. Soon, with the extension of the Paris tram system and the “tangentielle Nord” rail link, the university will enjoy much improved transport services – but that’s another story.
On behalf of all the faculty and staff of the University of Paris 13, let me welcome you to the new term and wish you every success in your studies.
Prof. Jean-Loup Salzmann
President of the University of Paris 13.
