University accreditation applies to courses from this institution
Welcome to Plymouth University
We are one of a new kind of modern university that operates globally but is proudly rooted within its local community. We focus upon what we do best and are driven by what matters most – advancing knowledge and transforming lives through education and research.
It’s a commitment that we try to uphold in all that we do. Our research-informed curriculum is delivered by some of the most respected teachers in the Higher Education academy, and we work in partnership with our students, entrusting in them a shared ownership of our academic endeavour and shared authorship of our student experience. We have embedded employability into our courses and across a range of extra- and co-curricular programmes so that we can nurture entrepreneurial instincts and encourage the development of enterprising skills and behaviours.
The results of the 2014 Research Excellence Framework show we are a top 50 UK research institution, and one that is defined by the impact our research has on others. From the implications of sea level rise for coastal communities to sustainable transport needs in an ageing society; from understanding neurological disease to creating dementia-friendly societies; from influencing government policy by examining the causes of workplace bullying to exploring culture and creativity across time and sometimes in the most unexpected places – you will find our researchers using their expertise to tackle some of the most pressing issues in our society today.
We are a green university, and one that believes sustainability is more than just a bullet point on a prospectus. We’ve woven it into our curriculum, and embedded it into our strategy as we strive to become carbon neutral by 2030. We work hard to be an exemplar ‘anchor institution’ – a university that is easy to do business with; one that works alongside local communities and industry to create jobs, develop the economy, and raise the profile of the South West.
Located on the border of Devon and Cornwall, in a city boasting a stunning natural splendour and a proud maritime tradition, Plymouth University is doing things a little differently. If you would like to know more, then please get in touch with us at email@example.com.
