A relatively young, multidisciplinary institution founded in 1977, the Université du Maine is situated in the heart of an important transportation and exchange network of the largest French and European cities. With two campuses, located in Le Mans (pop. 185,000) and Laval (pop. 93,000), 80 kms apart, the University is connected with numerous partners across 5 continents, in order to encourage and develop its research and teaching activities.

A key socio-economic and educational player in the Grand Ouest region, the Université du Maine is a member of PRES l’UNAM -Pôle de Recherche et d’Enseignement Supérieur -L’Université Nantes Angers Le Mans (Research and Higher Education cluster -Universities of Nantes, Angers and Le Mans) and of the RUOA -Réseau des Universités de L’Ouest Atlantique (Network of Western Atlantic Universities). The University also benefits from the city of Le Mans, famous world wide thanks to the 24 Heures Autos et Motos, the 24 hour car and motorcycle races, to reinforce its image in France and abroad
